Tutorial Flag Tutorial I 2014-11-17

create a unique flag for your city or country journal

  1. veija2
This document provides 12 flag templates and 15 flag symbols in .png for use in creating your own flag. The flag patterns are these standard patterns, about 2", full color, .png and fully editable.

    Flag_styles_outline1.png

    The symbols include

    Flag_symbols_gallery1.png

    Flag_symbols_gallery2.png

they are 1.5 - 2.5 inches high, fully editable .png files

Here are four examples of flags that you can create using the same flag pattern in different colors, and a few different symbols.

    sample_eagle.png

    sample_rose.png

    sample_star_ring.png

    sample_tunsia.png

This tutorial is intended to be the first in a two or three part series, depending on whether there is any interest. The next parts will cover how to create a final "screenshot" of your flag in your city, like the one below.

It is the flag I designed for Touvazada, an island city I have in progress (no cj yet).

    I found it really terrible.

I can't extract photo's from the PDF File and the photo aren't
transparent and 100% clear. So I can't change color and I can't extract to pictures to files. :((((((

A really good tutorial but i'd miss some things. The pictures off all templates can't be downloaded as jpeg or other and they can't be changed to another colour. Due a texture lag. :(((((( Please can you change that. And some countries have other flag templates like Mauritius using 4 or 5 fesses , while Ukraine uses 2 fesses. And Tokelau is using a wierd shape like a sail boat in the center. While the flag of the Sapmi in Scandinavia uses a round in the center and many colour inside. Niue and other countries in the pacific uses a britain flag on the left top. Bosnia & Hergezovina , North-Korea , Burundi , Jordan , Malaysia , Nauru , Marshall Islands , Nepal , Brazil , Brunei , Northern Cyprus , Turkmenistan , Japan , Macedonia , Uganda , Niger , British Indian Ocean Territory and thats not all of the list. And there aren't much symbols in this toturial. Why not copy them from all the countries flags??? Like from here-> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_style_of_national_flags.
Your idea is great , original , standard , new option for XLNation. But everything you have isn't much to make very different flags from countries.

See the directions on how to copy an image from a .pdf file in the discussion. Any of the colors can be changed to any other color in any image editing software. If you want multiple fesses on one flag, copy the line drawing of it in the tutorial and overlay it multiple times on your new image. As I have said, I started this to see if there was any interest. I can add more

    Excellent!

I would recommend to use vectors instead of PNG images. There are free vector drawing softwares like InkScape and there are thousands of free vectors around the net. The advantage is that vectors are very easy to edit and they are not rasterized so they can be scaled up or down without losing quality. The images can be exported as PNG or any other rasterized image format.

This is great. Even though there isn't heaps of templates, it's a good start for anyone wanting to know how to do it. Plus, you can find tonnes more on the net.

If there's enough interest in more templates, I'll do them as vectors.

I think that this truly was a good idea for sharing
with the community; but I must say that I indeed
had hoped for a bit more variety in templates
and symbols. I am missing e.g. some rather mythological
eagles, as you have in the flags of Austria and Germany.
Also, some saltire combined with circles would be a nice feature,
see e.g. Burundi. On top of that, I would find it cool if you had the time
to make some combinations of stars, e.g. a circle of 12 or more stars
(European Union has 28...), or find some ways to give a sequence of
stars that each are rotated through some higher angle
    (a bit like China)...
Nonetheless, I appreciate your effort you already put into this!
