Harriet Island was founded on Hammer Island by the Funky Monk. Population is 2.01 million.

The Legend: Harriet, the Egret and the Lion

In the beginning, time fell from the sky. Harriet grabbed it up, and carried it across the heavens on the back of a giant sea turtle. As she flew, the world sprang up below. The Lion, king of the sky, was so delighted at what Harriet had done that he swallowed her whole. In his warm belly, her song became the mighty egret. Together, the three of them governed the World.

When the sky-pirates attacked, Ka-hai advised the royals to cast egret egg shells across the sky for protection. Many people died, and sorrow filled the land. Eventually the pirates lost interest and sailed away.

A great fog fell over the world. Harriet, the Lion and the Egret disappeared into it. Memories were shaken, and then lost. In the end, the Estroei Eirow, keepers of the ancient stories, had all gone. None of their teachings remained. But the islanders remember their prophets who said, "Look to the east." Today, statues created in their likeness still attend the rising sun.

Travelers came from across the sea. Euchoui (the People) thought the new ideas brought from other lands were greatly entertaining. They laughed when their hills became dotted with street lights and their small villages were leveled to make room for multiplex housing. They called this time of development "the great amusement."

Today, these multiplex neighborhoods are pricy condominiums catering mostly to tourists. They make up a large part of the more urban Alstadt area. They neighbor the industrial seaport, HI-town (Harriet Island University) and the exclusive resort area of Nana'lua.
