    Hello, folks!

I think i'm too dumb for accepting the games' lag with bigger cities. It's about 50% finished and the game starts to burn my condo. However i present you my latest project. More picture will follow when the city grows and completes (i hope so).

New Hastings is an important industrial logistics center of the N.U.R. It is located at the estuary of river Nautil in river Pretego about in the middle of the country, both rivers are navigable quite well. Also (larger) river Pretego represents the border between the states Pretego and New Humbria. On the other river bank you see Haroldsburg, a suburban, flat town. The harbor is highly frequented due to its location and characteristic as distribution place and its proximity to Pretego Canal. Lots of important highways and railway lines meet in New Hastings and its metropolitan area.

The city has about 2,4 million inhabitants, Greater New Hastings - the metropolitan area - has a population of about 8 million. Also New Hastings offers a busy commercial area and an indispensable business and financial district. New Hastings - Halka International Airport (located in Haroldsburg) opens the gate for many tourists and business people as well.

    History

The city was founded in 1875 - just 2 years after the independence of the country - by Peter Casey, settler from Hastings, UK. The phosphat wars had affected the infrastructure of the area markedly, but due to its location in the countrys middle, at the Pretego river and the close Pretego Canal New Hastings was developing fast. Also other favorable circumstances like the growing economy of the country and the beginning industrialization had influenced the growth positively.

In 1900 a huge flooding destroyed big areas of the town. The incident took place in the early morning (about 5 am) of August, 29th. Many citizens were still sleeping during the disaster. 21,000 people lost their lifes in the water, when Pretego River bursted its banks rapidly after a breach in the dike in northern New Humbria. The situation was aggravated due to the low banks of the river. After that disaster the city council was taking flood protection measures along the coast. This had a nice side effect, because the low, miry and marshy ground got elevated and stabilized and allowed new and more effective ways of building ports. The freight handling rised, rails have been installed aligning the city.

Until 1950 the population has grown up to 1,400,000. The role as a logistics center of the country was already established. New Hastings suffered from 1970s financial crisis, many corrupt politicians (Rourke, Sinnerman) and businessmans (Ellen, Garrison) from that time damaged the reputation of the city as business location.

It took until 1988 to detect all the schemings and criminal actions from that time. Today New Hastings is a hub for industry (Lleyton chemicals, Cangan Pharmacy Ltd.., Pancoya Systems Corp.) and finance (Takahashi Trading Corp., KDL Insurance Group, Morrison Real Estate Investmens Corp. Ltd.).

Haroldsburg is a city located on the other side of Pretego river in the state of New Humbria. It has a population of 106,000. Of course many inhabitants work in New Hastings and in other towns and cities in Greater New Hastings. But nevertheless the city can boast with an airport, a cargo center and a growing industrial area as employers.

Your parks and green areas are really beautiful. I like the picture from Cargo Airport with the houses and network of roads there. International Airport with it's transition to the city is very impressive.

I absolutely love this, but as an Australian, feel rather ill towards the placement of the Sydney Opera House.

Other than that, love that you didn't overload all the attractions and great buildings in one small area like most cities. Like that you spread it out around the whole city.

Actually the opera house is placed carefully at downtown right at the entrance to that park. i like its position, but of course its a markable and famous monument, its location is a matter of taste in this game. thx nevertheless for the review.

    4/5,
I think you've done a really great job with this city. While many areas such as the airport/industrial area were very exciting, I really feel like the transportation engineering was a bit bizarre, lacking grid structure or commonality. However, this is a matter of taste since your choice did not go totally against realism.

Also, while your arterial transportation network was very aesthetically enhancing, I can tell that based on their collection/distribution points (entrances/exits) and directional patterns that it might not provide completely effective and equal access. This is a problem that I encounter every now and then during my projects. I've learned to keep as much of the highways grounded as space would provide, and where absolutely necessary, elevate or connect with viaducts. This is important to realism because in real life, elevated highway sections are exponentially more expensive than grounded portions, and therefore are not very cost effective (a factor that contributes to realism). Also grounded highways are very easy (and cheaper) to upgrade to accommodate structural changes in the city's infrastructure as it grows. And to make the roads higher so passengers and have a scenic/skyline view of downtown and other highlight areas, a simple fill would do.

Lastly, my favorite picture was the airline window shot of the city. You did a great job with the photo-shopping.. I wish I knew I to do that!

Thanks! Yes, there are missing some ramps for reasons of space. It turned out too big and weird for my taste.

The photoshopped picture you mean has been edited by Artmaster, credits go to him :-)
