NicaumeneeHello folks! After months of planning and playing, I present to you the City of Nicaumenee (IPA: nˈɪkəmˌɛniː)!
Maybe I start with some background. You can skip it if you want, but then don't complain later
Having built Arenzano, my Italian city, I realized that for the next city, I would have to cut some plans if I ever wanted to finish the city. With new modifications released by @Drazicdesign, the wish arose to build an American city, albeit I have never been there. On the one hand, I did not want to build a coastal city, on the other hand, I did not want to build on a fully covered map. Thus I chose the Island Bor map by @ronrn to build a lake city on. With all the islands I added, it still has become a challenge, even though the larger portions of the map are filled.
My idea was to "replace" the city of Manitowoc in Wisconsin (USA), by a midsized metropolis having a population of around 400,000 citizens, and of about 800,000 inhabitants within the proper metropolitan area.
Of course, the map only has a size of about 35 to 40 square kilometres (13.5 to 15.4 square miles), hence it only represents parts of the city. I thought that maybe 150,000 of the 403,000 citizens would live on that part of the city, and the rest would live outside of the map. The in-game population already is higher than one million, so it has really become a larger city Given the size of the map, I came to the conclusion that I had to cut my plans for an airport. Thus, there will not be that many megastructures that you will see; my aim was to give a realistic impression If I find some more time, I may be able to finally finish the marshalling yard, the gas power plant, the (sewage) water plants, the main cemetery, as well as the northern half of the harbour If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the discussion thread! In the foreground, you can spot the Pyramid Convention Center, built in the late 1980s. It's a multifunctional building, hosting convention rooms, a hotel, as well as a casino.
You can also spot the Sherman Park Tunnel that was built in the late 1990s to connect the previously highly separated parts of the district:
There have been calls to change the current accesses, as the ramps are quite short. This would inevitably lead to a reduction in lanes of the main highway.
