    Nice. Tutorial covers the beginnings of modelling.
    Will Part 2 be about UVW mapping or about more advanced modelling (working with edges, vertices, welding, inserting new vertices, cutting, etc.)?

    part 2 is about texturing lod3
    i will not explain more advanced modelling in those tutorials ;) (maybe welding, but dont know yet)

    do you have to use 3ds max 2012 or can you use any 3ds max? I downloaded the citiesXL suite and I tried using 3ds max 2014 but I'm given this error message during launch: 1.PNG and this one after I click "ok": 2.PNG

    When I launch 3DS Max and try to find the cities XL exporter nothing shows up, there is no option for it. 3.PNG

    So, if I need to use 2012, how do I get it? Autodesk no longer offers that version online, and I can't find it anywhere, or am I doing something wrong here?

    yes, you need 3ds max 2012 for that plugin. theres is also one available for 3ds max 2008. other versions are not compatible with it. unfortunately 2012 version is gone from autodesk website so the only way to get it is to search for it "somewhere else"

    of course u can also use the new plugin for xxl only. but mods created with that one will crash xl game version. good thing about it: it will work with every software that supports .fbx file format, for example max2014.

    I am playing with XXL and is the processes in part V still hold true? i.e. Does the way of creating the localization file and other things still the same in both XL and XXL?

    yes it is.
    Only difference at all is the creation of .sgbin file IF you use a newer version of 3ds max than 2012 or another software. Everything else is still the same.

    Hi Mr.X2, I have another problem. I am doing one experimental mod "littlehouse" and it is finished in 3ds max 2019. (Yes, 2019, it came out a month ago)

    But when I try to put the .fbx file into the xxl viewer, it showed nothing.

    I assume its due to missing shaders.
    The process in newer versions than 2012 is different. Unfortunately i cannot tell you how to do this since ive never done it myself.
    Maybe @PaulJChris or @Monty knows. I think PJC posted it somewhere here in the forums years ago, but not sure. Maybe you can find a documentary provided by FHI somewhere.
    Sorry, cannot help you with that :(

    Not really beneficial tho, but during the meantime I found a download of 3ds max 2012, so I'll be switching. One more question: is 3ds max 2012 compatible with windows 10? I am currently using a windows 7 machine but will switch soon.
