Official Bay of Islands Contest Submissions 2018

Hello everyone:
East Pavilion-er here, and I am going to present the city of Huiyuan（中文：绘园；Also called Drawpark）. This city, or rather district, is situated close to East Lake in the suburbs of Sibo（中文：思博；Also called Spurrieville） in the Waterway Province of People's Republic of Lognesia. People's Republic of Lognesia bears many resemblance to China, and its cities are, in fact, almost identical in style. So this city has the same style of cities this size in the area I am currently living in.
Huiyuan began its development in the 1980s, when the Capitol-Spurrieville-Yellowstone Railway began construction. In 1990, the railway opened and the town was booming. In 2000, the city had a population of 80,000, all in the old town area. (pictures see below) But, as an independent town, the development almost halted. However, in 2010, City of Sibo began to develop outwards, and Huiyuan became an important suburban city of Sibo. Also, a freight airport was planned here to satisfy the increasing need for quicker shipments of goods sold online. Huiyuan began its greatest development of all time.
Now it's 2020 (at least in this fictional world), and Huiyuan has developed significantly compared to twenty years ago. It has a population of over 250,000 and most of the increased population live in the new town area. There are two elevated highways and one commuter railway line connecting the city to the downtown Sibo. The proposed airport is now complete and it shipped over 2 million tons of goods last year. Huiyuan has become one of the most prosperous town in the whole Waterway province.

For every picture, there is a story behind it. I'll tell you these stories, and you'll understand why the city looks like this.
So let's enjoy the beautiful cityscape of Huiyuan!

In the northwestern region of the map lies an industrial area called Lakeside High Tech Area. Technically it does not belong to Huiyuan, but belongs to Sibo. Due to proximity of Huiyuan however, it is one of the largest empolyer of Huiyuan residents.


Going slightly south of the industrial area there is a port called East Lake Port. It is the largest lake port in the country, as the other side of the lake is the main agricultural region of the nation. Containers of vegetables and meat are shipped to the port and then loaded onto trains immediately thanks to the convenient train connection at the two piers. There are some oil tanks on the shore for fueling of ships and diesel locomotives.


Going through the narrow strait where Low River joins the East Lake, we come to the old town of Huiyuan, which was developed mostly between 1985 and 2000. The houses are usually between 4 and 8 floors and they can be identical across two blocks or more. However, they look grey and ugly in some people's eyes. This is closely related to the era of the construction of these houses. In the 1990s, Lognesia was experiencing the first urban population boom after its foundation, and the main thought of house construction was utilitarianism, or "form means nothing." Also, Lognesia practices Socialism (just like China does) and the land is owned by the government, so government is responsible for the development of Huiyuan. The government sell the land to 10 construction companies and one company only build houses with one design to reduce the cost. (China did exactly the same thing in the same era.)
Also the highway here is another point of interest. There is an elevated portion for faster traffic and a ground portion for slower traffic, a design that can be seen on most Chinese urban highways. There are ramps connecting the elevated and ground portions while few ramps connect to other ground-level roads. These traits can be clearly seen on the highway in the right side of the picture.


In the center of the old town lies Huiyuan's first railway station, Huiyuan North Station. Colloquially called "the old station," this station was finished in 1989 and served as Huiyuan's only station for 25 years. However, as Huiyuan Station (colloquially called "the new station") completed in 2014, it no longer accepted intercity traffic. Now only commuter trains to downtown Sibo stop here. There is a hotel and a hypermarket around the station, and the hotel has been the tallest building in Huiyuan for over 20 years.


Going further down south from the old town, we come to the new town. This part of the town is mainly built after 2010 and features mainly tall residential buildings (mainly between 10 and 25 floors). As previously said, the government sell the land to construction companies and they build the same house design in one block to form a "community," just like most modern residential districts in Chinese cities.
To say Huiyuan new town is mainly residential doesn't mean that it is completely residential. On the right side of the picture (or, in the northern part of new town), there lies the business district, the central station, the city hall, and the shopping mall. Close to the center of the picture there is Huiyuan museum. On the left of the picture there is a school that spans from 1st to 12th grade. These are the spotlights in the sea of residential buildings.


In the northern region of the new town there lies the CBD which consists of several tall office buildings all over 100 meters (328ft). The tallest building is Huiyuan Development Tower, at 179 meters and 42 floors. It is on the picture's left side, with two podium buildings on its side. These buildings are built between 2012 and 2018, and Huiyuan Development Tower is built in 2013.


Going to the southernmost point of Huiyuan new town, there is a new spotlight of the town. The railway runs through the city, and for a long time, the area around it remained bare. However, in 2015, Huiyuan government decided to build a mixed use zone around the railway, and it turned out to be ideal for startup companies and young people. Finished in 2019, this area is called Huiyuan Creative Park, and it is now one of the spotlight district of Huiyuan.
The station closest to us in the picture is Huiyuan South Station (more commonly known as "the south station") and the station on the top of the picture is Huiyuan Station (more commonly known as "the central station").


Going east across a bay of the lake, we come to Huiyuan Airport. It is mainly a freight airport with regional passsenger flight capability. It has two runways and several freight terminals, and one passenger terminal. It is the largest hub for airmail and packages from online vendors in the whole country.


The airport has very nice transportation connection, and freight trains can go directly from the seaport to the airport. Also there is a passenger station for air travellers and airport workers who commute to the airport daily. Freight station is close to us on the bottom of the picture, and the passenger station is close to the terminal, next to the parking garage.


Going north from the airport, we come to the final piece of Huiyuan: Lake Tip National Park. This hilly lakeside area was established as a national park in 1978, even before Huiyuan was a city. The park is one of the greatest places for hikers and cyclists in the Waterway province. There is a Buddhist temple in the center, a lakeside cafe in the left, and a viewing deck pointing towards Huiyuan in the right of the picture.

Bay La Sun, is inhibited with a population of 650,000. as you may notice most of people work Agriculture and Trade. The city is also equipped with a mid size industrial area on the eastern bank which is connected via rail with a service Seaport. While the Airport services the city western side Financial districts and residents.

Rotwandberg is the capital of a small city-state called Herzogtum Hohenassholz in the south of the Holy Roman Empire. The pictures show the city as it was in 1450. The region is very wet and the city is surrounded by lakes. Weapons, iron, cereals and wood trade made the city prosperous.

DELTA is an almost full map coverage city.
City includes a seaport, Delta airport that handles both passenger and cargo traffic, a city train network including Central Station and Airport Station among other.
