Hello all, not sure where my projects adventure may lead but here it is.

Currently I use hand drawn greyscale heightmaps, created in a paint program, since the new XXL map editor allows the import of 8bit image files. Free version terrain apps (World Machine, Terragen) dont allow the export of the required 4096 resolution raw32 files. I can extract 8bit images from World Machine, but again with the low resolution.

Starting simple with mostly flat maps with water features. Still practicing on hills and mountains. I've found that overcoming a "stair step" result to be the biggest challenge.
First project:
I'm attempting to fill a request by "harrysbird" for some coastal city maps along the coast of Vancouver Island.

XXL resources already has a lot of great maps so I think I'll work on a few map request.
I'm gonna try some of the maps from this list requested by @Al town.

His requested map, Lost Heaven, from the game "Mafia" is only 2.6 milies relative to XXL's 6.5 miles, by my calculations.
So, with the extra real estate, the plan is to combine maps from all 3 versions of the "Mafia" game.

2. Empire Bay
3. New Orleans

How about this?

My goal is just to fill the map with some interesting/fun real-estate for building while keeping the original request in mind.
Relative to XXL game maps:
Lost Heaven is enlarged by about 60% (4 x 3.8 km to 10.5 x 8.6 km)
Empire Bay enlarged about 60% as well (2.3 x 2.0 km to 4.8 x 3.7 km)
Any larger would distort both map's proportions.
A real world map of New Orleans, used in Mafia III, just will not work in relation to the other maps. Anyway, no Mafia III game specific map is available (that I could find), so one can use imagination to expand building or incorporate specific Mafia III road & building locations.

 

Just waiting for the site to stabilize before attempting to post this map in resources. Seems to be some problems with it for the last couple of days.

Do you have more map request?
Perhaps Moscow & St Petersburg.
If so, let me know, I'd prefer to condense them into a single pack for posting in resources.

note: maps can cover an area of only 9 km for the best realistic results, 10 km at most.
