  1. Six temples and shrines of Kawashima

    Kitsunebi
    Scattered around in the area of Kawashima City there are six famous temples and shrines.

    Ishidera 石寺, the Rock Temple:
    This temple can be found close to Hirodani Town, north-west of Kawashima. The historic main building has been built on a sacred rock.

    Kamijinja 神社, Island of the Gods:
    This shrine is partly situated on a sacred island east of Kawashima City, close to Oshima village. It is one of the most important places of worship and pilgrimage in the region.

    The sacred island is reached over a small wooden bridge and you enter through an ancient stone gate:

    Harujinja 春神社, the Spring Shrine:
    Most of the year you can experience different blooming trees, which makes it seem as there is an everlasting spring. The shrine is nearby Awazu village.

    Kawadera 川寺, the River Temple:
    This temple is in the town of Midoridani on a sharp river bend that forms a peninsula.

    Mizūmijinja 湖神社, the Lake Shrine:
    Situated in the wide valley of Hirodani in a village called Takada.

    And finally Hanadera 花寺, the Flower Temple:
    It's not hard to guess where the name came from ;) the closest village is Hanamura.
