    Update 1, the Chinatown District

Skamania proudly contains a strong Chinese Community

This community originally settled in the area after work on the Northern Pacific Railroad was completed. Sadly only a small portion of the original "Chinatown" remains but the area is now designated an historic district. The main attraction is the central square bordered on one end by a classic Chinese Gate. The Northwest Oriental Hotel is also located off the main square and is a great location for starting your exploration of the city.

If you love dim sum the hotel serves the finest in the city every Sunday from 7am to 3pm. (Reservations are encouraged, phone 971-555-3433) The Chinatown District is one of the more popular night spots in the city with its colorful lights and of course the shops and smells from the wonderful eateries in the district. The "Chinatown" district is an integral part of Skamania as seen in the last photo below, and rivals those districts found in the larger Pacific Northwest cities of Seattle and Portland. Only Vancouver B.C. and San Fransico exceed Skamania in size and vibrance, though we like to think our views of the Cascade Mountains and Lake Goose Hollow more than make up for our smaller size.
