Restart it, Kipate, or start a new city. You'd be the one to make the best city of that style. I have yet to see a great German layout. To me it's challenging, Germany and Austria are Europe's crossroads. You have to mix Eastern, Scandinavian, Southern Europe, as well as Western to get an accurate German/Austrian look (in cities XXL that is).

    Well, not right now!
Right now, I am participating on that Gonaives Challenge.
And I want to recreate an American City, similar to Boston, for instance...
Already got some ideas, just right now, the airport is freaking me out :p

    Edit: You could participate, too...
I mean, you would still have about one and a half months to finish
    the city, should work :)

I'm not the biggest fan of the map. I am also not the biggest fan of any competition in general (well, I really love the Olympics). However, I am a poor-sport and I take it too serious when I play any competitive game. LOL. I'm gonna go check out the map and forum on it again. I'll rethink my decision.

As for American cities, in my opinion, @Inan is the master. I look at his journals with extra care. I never steal, but most definitely do draw inspiration.

Funny thing is that Inan and me are exchanging PMs on a regular base. And yeah, I asked him about
his experience on American Cities, too. In the given case, I have to say that a North Eastern Coast US city
cannot have any of Inan's cities as an idol, as they all look quite different. Bay City may have the most
similarities, but it is rather a New Yorked Styled city, and New York is unique in any way ;)

I do agree with you there. Plus, New England (as the region is called here in the states) is about the last place in America where you still sort of feel the "old world" The cities are built considerably different that most other American cities. That is because they were there before the Township Survey was done (it completely changed how we zone) It's when everything became a directional axis and that all too familiar mileXmile square development came about.

@Inan Bay City is, however, a really close approximation to a very large New England city layout. Brooklyn, Queens, even Detroit (where I live) all have those scattered developments that make up irregular blocks. Instead of the rigid structure of cities further west.

Yeah, well, at least regarding the buildings used it is quite similar to e.g. some of the cities in the UK,
for instance Liverpool or Birmingham. But the street layout is really really different from the US layout.
For instance, when you have a look at Philadelphia: it is almost only blocks, and even Boston has mostly block
unit districts. I mean, I think this at that times was the most efficient way for a colony, though...

Here is something I had been working on:
A fort, inspired by one in Boston:

I dig that, Kipate. That's gonna be an awesome fort. What are those rocky embankment mods you use and do they work in XXL? You are are right about the blocks and variances in the major New England cities. I should have prefaced that the "old world" statement was more in reference to the non-major New England cities, all the villages and hamlets.

A lot of those ideas for blocks and axis building came from Germany though. LOL. Mannheim, Germany anyone? At least, in my American urban studies courses in school we studies up on a lot of German designers.

LOL, didn't know there are some people watching my CJ for "learning reasons" :D
I appreciate it and i can't deny i feel something like pride to hear this :) Thanks. Especially when i see your (very good) city coming up :)

As i can see @Kurtis Edwards your current project is very promising. I like it you want to keep the size as it is. Also low rise cities are really special, different to all those skyscraper cities we are used to see. Keep your style, i'm pretty sure it can get a top class town. :)

Ah, I remeber Fort Ryan, it had been one of my favourite CJs on Old XLN.
Would you probably want to upload it here again?

Yeah, a lots better with the bridges ;)
just the highway bridges on the outer right of the second picture
    would deserve an upgrade :p
Why not using improving the area and enlargening the highway and
then place one of the modded highway bridges there?
    E.g. Verrazano Narrows?
Think about that it is about your 10th city journal,
forming smooth bridges should not be a problem for you anymore :D

Progress with the gas power plant:
Power Plant+ Gas Unloading Facilities for gas transporting trains (which I need to place soon...):

The idol for that power plant was the Ravenswood Power Plant in New York City:
